Pink Grapefruit Sorbet and the Presidential Debate: Part Deux

Holy sh*t this sorbet is good!!!

(Look, Starberry’s new menu!)

I hate to admit that I’ve hated on Starberry (on Queens Blvd. b/w 42nd and 43rd Sts.). Not only are they becoming an increasingly popular Korean-owned dessert nook in this ‘hood, but pretty much everything B and I have given a chance and eaten there has proven better than expected. I’m still skeeved out by potential mystery chemical content, but so far, they’re really bringing their A game — even their toilets are fucking hardcore!!

On a tip from a friend, the lovely Ms. D, we were lured into Starberry for some post-Book Chang Dong sorbet sweetness. D had raved about the pink grapefruit sorbet, and after a quick in-house taste, we got a small (although not entirely pocket-friendly at $3.25) cup with blueberries and strawberries on top, to go.

When we got home, B realized the debate was going on and scurried to find the remote. Damned if the sight of John McCain’s supressed rage face didn’t force me into some rather reckless sorbet intake…

(Slightly melty on top from the walk home, but perfectly chilled within)

For the record, D knows what she’s talkin’ about. That shit is GOOD. Tangy with a literal BURST of full-bodied grapefruity flavor that tastes 100% natural, even if it is somehow chemically geneticized. It’s not artificially colored and the consistency is delightfully creamy while retaining the icy melt of tried-and-true sorbet. We played it safe with the blueberries/strawberries combo, but each fruit’s tang meshed well with that of the pink grapefruit and kept the dessert big on the tastebuds and light on the stomach. I’m not even a huge sorbet fan, but as of now, I’d vote for pink grapefruit sorbet over McUgly and the Alaskan hussy any day.

Obama says “yes we can” eat more pink grapefruit sorbet.

McCain makes the suppressed rage face, and the pink grapefruit sorbet loathes him even more.
