Savory Biscuit at the Sidewalk Sale
Following a harsh 7am loss on Sat. morning (grrr), we headed over (eaaaaaarly) to the nabe’s sidewalk extravaganza. We arrived around 10:30am to a tame showing. Balloons marked maybe six row houses with folding tables fares… not sure if the vendor stock increased later in the day.
After being sidetracked and cornered by an affable dude hocking raffle tickets (I hate everything raffle tickets stand for, but gotta support the ‘hood, so I plunked down $5), we beelined past the hand-me-down kiddie toys straight for the snack table.
The verdict: the spread was better than we thought, though there weren’t any fucking brownies. B got a savory cheese biscuit. I eyed up the homemade pies, bread, cookies, and caramel pecan thingys, but we agreed to just split the $0.50 cheddar nugget.

B really liked it — served at room temp., bready (not too buttery), and with wee pockets of hardened cheese. We scarfed it while rifling through somebody’s rather uninspired selection of paperbacks.
We ended up leaving the Sidewalk Sale empty-handed, though B may have made a lasting impression on 48th St. when he elicited a glare of discontent from a Sunnyside Gardens resident by waving a CD in the air and exclaiming incredulously, “I want to know WHO THE HELL is selling Wu-Tang’s 8 Diagrams for $1?!”
Good looks on the neighborhood-organized weekend suaree, though there wasn’t much (at that time of day, anyway) to entice visitors like us who didn’t have (puntable) children or grannies in tow.
We didn’t win that f’n raffle, either.
