Yogurt Whores on Queens Blvd??

say it ain’t so…

In the newspapered-over storefront where the recently migrated Fish Market used to reside (on Queens Blvd between 42nd and 43rd sts), we peeped this sign over the weekend. Way to harsh our sunny Sunday mellow.

Google searches yield no answers, though any partially informed young urbanite might deduct that “Starberry” is yet another ridiculous hipster-kitschy knockoff of ass-monkey frozen yogurt chain Pinkberry. There are so many bullshit chemical-enhanced faux-healthy fro-yo joints popping up across NYU territory and the furthest reaches of the village that, without even having to inhale their fu-fu berry crap frosty bi-products, I’m ready to hurl.

Queens Blvd. is an unexpected destination for a gleaming, presumably LA-inspired contender covertly vying to topple the Stinkberry empire…

To be fair, I wanna believe I’m over-reacting, here. Maybe Starberry’s actually being opened by a cute little local couple who just honestly prefers the taste of frozen yogurt to the all natural, milky sheen of home-churned ice cream. Maybe the sanctity of Sunnyside and (up until now) the relatively low-key presence of food chains isn’t being threatened by a granola-topped wolf in sheep’s clothing.

It’s too early to stage a boycott, but I’ll be keeping my discerning “take no shit from corporate money-grubbing vultures” eye on this one. And for those of you who are the LEAST bit intrigued by the fruity “low-fat” window signage, just keep in mind, it used to be a fish shop.
