it’s almost that time of year again… the birds are chirping, the sun is shining… now if it would just crack 60 degrees, dammit.

every spring/summer, our favorite destination on the other side of the blvd is Pecas Y Mas (4420 greenpoint ave b/w 44th and 45th sts), the colombian juice and smoothie counter that has had our hearts from day one. a small-time gig run by the sweetest couple this side of the east river, Pecas Y Mas makes some of the finest quality smoothies i’ve ever laid lip on, and they always have a bounty of fresh domestic and tropical fruit on hand…

case in point: my visiting sister, double-fisting blackberry mango smoothies this past fall:

…another gem at this magical menagerie juice bar is our longtime warm-weather obsession, the SUPER CHOLADO. the name alone sends chills up my spine.

Pecas Y Mas does SUPER CHOLADOS, and they do SUPER CHOLADOS right. a bevy of fresh fruits (think melons, bananas, pineapple, strawberries, passion fruit, cherries, guava) all hand-cut at the time of the order, drizzled with sweet creamy condensed milk, honey, towering with ice and fresh coconut shavings, then fitted with both a spoon and a straw. oh, the fun that ensues…

..speaking of which, fuck this arctic chill. B and I are off for another cross-blvd adventure to go bathe ourselves in some $5 smoothie-and-sweet-milky goodness.
